Research & Evaluation Projects
Washington State Project AWARE

Under a subcontract with Maike & Associates, I currently serve as the data collection and oversight manager for the evaluation of Washington State’s Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) grant, funded by SAMHSA and implemented in 3 school districts. In this role, I develop data collection instruments and procedures, train district and school staff on data collection, coordinate the development of an online data collection platform, conduct focus groups and key informant interviews, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and prepare reports for the funding agency.

Pacific County MAT-PDOA Evaluation
Under a subcontract with Maike & Associates, I served as the project manager for the evaluation of Pacific County's (Washington) Medication Assisted Treatment-Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction (MAT-PDOA) grant. In this capacity, I manage all aspects of the evaluation including developing stakeholder and client survey and key informant interview instruments, administering surveys and interviews, collecting and analyzing all data required by the funding agency (SAMHSA), and preparing quarterly and annual reports to the client and funder.
Washington SAPISP Evaluation

I served as the Project Director for the evaluation of Washington State’s Student Assistance Prevention and Intervention Services Program (SAPISP), a program providing substance abuse prevention and intervention services in public schools across the state of Washington. I managed all aspects of the evaluation including providing technical assistance to program staff, managing data collection, conducting outcome analyses, preparing reports, and presenting findings to stakeholders and funders. In addition, I managed the work of a subcontractor agency who hosted and managed an online data collection tool used by program staff.
HMH Publishing Math 180 Research Study

I served as the project manager for a quasi-experimental research study of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company’s Math 180, a mathematics intervention program for low performing students. In this role I contributed to the study design, worked with participating school districts to gain approval to conduct the study, prepared the IRB application, developed evaluation instruments and participant and parent consent forms, administered surveys, conducted focus groups and key informant interviews, conducted fidelity observations in classrooms, analyzed both qualitative and quantitative data, and collaborated with colleagues on writing reports.

High School Graduation Initiative Evaluation
For the evaluation of Portland Public Schools’ (Oregon) High School Graduation Initiative (HSGI) grant, funded by the US Department of Education, I conducted key informant interviews with program participants, leaders, and staff; conducted fidelity observations of program components; cleaned and merged student attendance, discipline, and academic data provided by the school district; analyzed quantitative and qualitative outcome data; and prepared reports and presentations summarizing findings.

Colorectal Cancer Screening Study
As the project manager for the Strategies and Opportunities to Stop Colorectal Cancer (STOP CRC) study, funded by the National Institutes for Health, I contributed to the study design, collaborated with software developers to implement study related tools in the electronic health record, and trained clinic staff on using these new tools and other study related procedures.
Grant Writing Projects

Drug Free Communities
For Washington State’s Educational Service District 123, I prepared a successful application for the Centers for Disease Control’s Drug Free Communities (DFC) Support Program. DFC provides funding for communities to establish and strengthen collaboration among community coalitions, non-profit agencies, and government agencies with the goal of preventing and reducing substance abuse among youth.

Mental Health Awareness Training
For Washington State’s Educational Service District 123, I mentored three staff members on the process of preparing and submitting an application for SAMHSA’s Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) grant. MHAT provides funding for organizations to deliver mental health awareness training to community members enabling them to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health issues, ultimately increasing access to services and decreasing negative outcomes.

Mentor Washington Grants
I have prepared three successful funding applications for MENTOR Washington, a small non-profit organization committed to providing quality mentoring that fosters positive development, academic success, and job and career readiness among youth in Washington State. As a result, MW received funding from the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Boeing, and the Nisqually Indian Tribe to expand their programs allowing them to provide mentoring services to more youth across the state.
